DESCRIPTION:Speaking Out and Shutting Down: How Florida Regulates Social Media and Political Speech\nThursday\, June 16 | 11:30 a.m. Networking | noon – 1 p.m. Presentation \nThe Ocala Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association will hold its monthly professional development meeting at the College of Central Florida Ocala Campus on Thursday\, June 16\, from noon-1 p.m.\, with networking starting at 11:30 a.m.  \nClay Calvert knows a thing or two about social media. In fact\, he’s gained vast experience with it given his Juris Doctor degree with Great Distinction from the University of the Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law and a Ph.D. in Communication from Stanford University. This month\, he talks to FPRA Ocala about “Speaking Out and Shutting Down: How Florida Regulates Social Media and Political Speech.” \nCalvert is a Brechner Eminent Scholar in Mass Communication at the University of Florida’s Department of Journalism. He is director of the Marion B. Brechner First Amendment Project at UF and authored several briefs with the United States Supreme Court. \nLast year\, he was named UF’s Teacher/Scholar of the Year and became the College of Journalism and Communication’s first member ever to win the most prestigious and oldest faculty award at UF. \nA published author many times over\, Calvert presented a TEDxUF regarding cameras and cops and contributes regularly to law journals and scholarly publications around the country. \n  \nThe cost to attend the in-person meeting is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. From May through July\, the chapter meets on the third Thursday of each month (due to the College of Central Florida’s summer schedule). \nNetworking takes place from 11:30-11:55 a.m.\, and the one-hour program begins promptly at noon.
