Welcome to the House of Gryffindor!

In anticipation of the fun President’s Reception at the 2017 FPRA Annual Conference, Chapters were sorted into Harry Potter houses at the last State Board meeting.

With trepidation, Lauren DeIorio reached in the sorting hat and chose Gryffindor…the house of Harry Potter! We are joined by Central West Coast, Capitol and Nature Coast Chapters. It’s a way for attendees to establish some camaraderie before arriving at Universal Studio’s Studio 33 for the reception. A Facebook page house been developed for each house. Once you register for conference you’ll be added, so register today!

How will we make our house statement? Will we fly in on brooms fresh from the great Quidditch Cup victory? Let the conversations begin!

Visit to learn more and explore the other potter houses!

PResident's Perspective

LaurenDeiorio04PPWhat a busy past few months our FPRA chapter has had.  Starting with the fabulous Image & Wilton F. Martin Communicator of the Year Awards Gala where several members walked away with Image awards and the celebration of this year’s Communicators of the year; Measure Up Marion & Dr. Manal Fakhoury, to our 2017 Toolkit Workshop that reminded me that I really am not as tech savvy as I thought I was when it comes to my Smartphone and the numerous video apps that are now available.  Good thing I have teens to help walk me through them.
Recently, I spent a little time reflecting on just how far this Chapter has come in a year.  In doing that, I went back and read the article I had written for the June 2016 newsletter.   There were a couple of observations that really struck a chord with me and left me feeling very proud of the Chapter’s accomplishments.  The very first observation is in the way our Chapter members rally when under pressure.  We have had several occasions where there have been unexpected leadership changes within the Chapter.  For some Chapters would have absolutely crippled them but our Chapter members have always risen to the challenge and stepped in where they are needed.  Namely, our seasoned members who not only serve their chapter tirelessly but they show our members, by example, the importance of working hard to promote the PR & Communication profession they love so dearly.

Another wonderful observation about our chapter is that our board sees the importance in investing in its members.  For the past two years, the board and especially our treasurer has worked hard to make sure that excess revenue is invested back into our members through scholarships to Annual Conference or helping to pay for our LeadershipFPRA representative’s registration fees.  The past two years investments could not have been possible without Devon Chestnut, APR, CPRC and the Cox Business sponsorship of our chapter. We are grateful! I can tell you that we are one of only a hand few of FPRA Chapters that do this and my hope is we can continue to find other avenues to provide benefits to our members.

We have still more excitement ahead for our Chapter with all the preparations for the new Chapter year as well as ushering in new leadership.  We also have Annual Conference just around the corner and if you haven’t registered, you may want to do that before the early-bird rate ends.  For those seeking help with Annual Conference, don’t forget that you can apply for a scholarship.  You know, one of those investments back to membership I referred to earlier.

This letter may be a bit longer than some, but reflecting on #MyFPRA Chapter and this outstanding Association inspires me! Get more involved…the inspiration follows!

Are You Making History?

ItTakesAPRo_FB1200x900GreenBy Kevin Christian, APR, CPRC

The Ocala chapter currently ranks as FPRA’s #1 “Chapter of the Year.” For many reasons, our chapter stands out when compared to others around the state. One component has remained consistent for several years – our chapter is among the most accredited and credentialed chapters in Florida! Go Ocala!
This doesn’t happen by chance. In fact, our 14 APR and 10 CPRC members intentionally dedicate hundreds of hours studying, testing, achieving, teaching, coaching, volunteering and monitoring members pursuing the APR and CPRC designations.
In a field where less than 20 percent worldwide are accredited, it’s easy to see why Ocala stands above the rest. Look at it this way: one of every three Ocala chapter members is Accredited in Public Relations. One in every three!
When it comes to the advanced CPRC credential, FPRA has 109 state-wide, including Ocala’s 10. This means we have nearly 10 percent of all Certified Public Relations Counselors right here in Ocala!
These folks serve as mentors, leaders, and motivators to all of us! If you’ve not considered your APR or CPRC options, talk with anyone wearing a blue name tag at the next monthly meeting. Or, reach out to me at to confidentially discuss how you can step up and become part of chapter history!
