Media Moguls? Not yet, but four members are behind the scenes is spreading the word about healthy matters
Ocala Chapter members chapters Craig Ackerman, Katie Myers, APR, Suzanne Santangelo, and Meghan Shay are also members of the advisory board for Marion and Citrus Healthy Living Magazine, a publication that serves Marion, Citrus and Hernando counties. The magazine is produced by Ocala Publications, which also produces Ocala Style and Lake & Sumter Style magazines. The publisher brought together a group of medical experts and community leaders to serve on the board. Ackerman is the public information officer for the Florida Department of Health in Marion County, Myers is director of marketing and public relations at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Santangelo is Director of marketing and public relations at Ocala Health, and Shay is Chief Mission Advancement Officer for The Centers.
“When Ocala Style launched Healthy Living, the publisher wanted advisors to help with content that would be relevant to the community,” said Craig. “We are delighted to be part of this important conversation to promote well-being.”
Not one to miss a ripe opportunity, Suzanne is taking good advantage of the blossoming relationship: “The magazine calls me frequently for input on general story topics. I also reach out to them to suggest hot topics. Sometimes they bite, sometimes not, but I feel it’s a good working relationship.”

PResident's Perspective-Take 4 (that's a wrap!)
Now that the Annual Conference has come to a close, I am super-charged about the new Chapter year. At our next professional development meeting on August 19, we will host our state FPRA incoming president, Terri Behling, APR, CPRC, who will install new chapter officers as well as share her theme of #myFPRA.
At our August meeting, I will also be revealing a Chapter theme that compliments Terri’s. The new board will have a lot to focus on in the new program year but most importantly, the task of growing our membership will take top priority. FPRA offers so much to all of its members and many of us already have benefited so much. Whether it is the opportunity of obtaining credentialing to further your career or hearing of new innovations related to PR at our monthly meetings, everyone can find value in an FPRA membership. I would like to see us all work hard to spread the word about the benefits of FPRA and invite new faces to our Chapter. My dream is that by the end of our Chapter year, we have grown so big as a chapter that we have filled our meeting space at CF to maximum capacity. I would love to see that dream become a reality and I know our Chapter can do it.
ETHICS & Misc.
In his final column, out-going president Roger Pynn, APR, CPRC, writes:
In support of our Code of Ethics, a task force took on a challenge to give us a simple explanation all of us can use whenever we are faced with the need to convince someone of our commitment to do the right thing. See it here!
Side note: The research done by Vice President of Research Ginger Broslat, APR, CPRC, told us that the #1 thing our members wanted were leadership development tools. I believe LeadershipFPRA will be that something extra that members are looking for.
If the overwhelming response to our inaugural class offering is any indicator (there was a waiting list), it has a great future.
Start your APR journey with an insider’s look at the exam.
Ginger Broslat, APR, CPRC will share her experience in taking the exam earlier this year. She will be joined by accreditation mentors for the Orlando chapters of PRSA (Beth Swanson, APR) and FPRA (Jeff Grainger, APR). This is a great time for interested candidates to explore the APR process and to learn about the resources available to you through PRSA and FPRA.
