President's Perspective

As we move into spring and come off the heels of our chapter’s two major events, I wanted to take a moment to recap the values and beliefs your board has been following to guide the Ocala Chapter throughout the 2018-2019 year:

  • Focus

    Lauren Debick, APR
    President
    FPRA Ocala Chapter
  • Understanding
  • Assistance
  • Positive Attitude
  • Creativity
  • Teamwork
  • Strategy

Another important idea that leads to the success of our chapter is the notion of effective communication. Ultimately, communication is one of the most important skills in life, especially in our industry. Here are a few things to keep in mind about communication:

  • Communication is a skill that can be enhanced. Did you know there are monthly webinars available to members of FPRA, some of which focus on communication skills? Visit https://www.fpra.org/webinar-codesarchive/ to browse through the archives. These webinars are free to FPRA members.
  • Annual conference is a great opportunity to not only learn the latest and greatest PR communication ideas, but also to learn about what FPRA is doing for members. Learn more about conference by visiting https://www.fpra.org/professional-development/annual-conference-details/. The Ocala chapter has also allocated funds for conference scholarships. Apply for a conference scholarship by visiting http://www.fpraocala.org/scholarship-application/.

Like anything else in life, your membership is what you make of it. There are so many ways to get involved in FPRA at both the local and state level so I encourage you to keep expanding your knowledge and expertise in the PR industry. Please text, call, Facebook message, tweet, (or event stop by my office for an in-person conversation) if there is anything I can do for you.

With gratitude,

Lauren

Advanced Career Enhancement Series

ACES Quarterly Meeting

The third installment of ACES (Advanced Career Enhancement Series) for 2018-19 occurs Tuesday, May 14 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Brick City Southern Kitchen, on the downtown Ocala square. Ocala chapter members with 10 or more years of public relations experience or APR accreditation are eligible to attend ACES. RSVP is recommended. For more information or to RSVP email Allison Campbell, APR, CPRC.

Accreditation Update

Even more Ocala chapter members are pursuing their Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) this season. Study sessions wrapped up in early April, and already we have one candidate who passed their panel presentation and will soon take the computerized test. Another plans to do so before summer’s end, and yet another is compiling materials for the panel presentation step. As well, two chapter members are sitting for their Certified Public Relations Counselor (CPRC) credential this month and next.
The Ocala Chapter has always been among the most-accredited and credentialed chapters in the state. No doubt we’re maintaining this status with the intent of leading the state!
If you’re interested in APR or CPRC, email Kevin Christian, APR, CPRC.

Did You Know

Did You Know?
Hot on the heels of the state association adopting the Quotation Mark as FPRA’s official logo, in 1983 the late Nancy Scharmach, APR, served what turned out to be her first, but not last, term as president. By then, the chapter’s long-standing practice of meeting the third Friday of the month was firmly entrenched.
