March 2019 PRestige

Lauren Debick
FPRA Ocala President

“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.” This quote from Helen Keller is one of my favorites and a quote I am constantly looking to as we move into March. There are so many exciting things happening in the Ocala chapter right now and it truly takes the effort of the whole team to keep things moving forward.

Teamwork is allowing our chapter to plan the 2019 Mid-Florida Image Awards along with the 2019 PR Regional Summit while also working on a community service project for the Homeless Council of Marion County AND helping members finalize their image entries, all at the same time!

I am so thankful for the team within FPRA because we are all working toward the same goal of advancing the profession of public relations and enhancing the professional development of its members.

If you are looking for a way to get more involved with the Ocala chapter team, please let me know!

With Gratitude,

The Mid-Florida Image Awards competition is conducted annually by the Ocala Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association to recognize outstanding public relations programs as well as marketing and communications work. By recognizing the very best examples of innovation, planning and design, the Image Awards encourage and enhance public relations, marketing and communications professionalism in the communities we serve.

Register now for the PR Regional Summit, presented by the FPRA Ocala Chapter. This fun and exciting professional development event will take place Thursday, May 2 from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion Extension Auditorium. General session speakers include Alyson Lundell, Senior Public Relations Director with Universal Orlando Resort; Heather Fagan, Deputy Chief of Staff with Mayor Buddy Dyer’s Office (Orlando, Fla.); Claire Lessinger, Director of Special Events with the Tampa Bay Sports Commission. This event will also include four breakout sessions covering topics like digital marketing and SEO, social media, brand management, leadership development and more!

Tickets are $85 for FPRA members, $95 for nonmembers and $50 for students. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. The deadline to register is Friday, April 26.

Long before the Ocala Chapter was chartered in 1980, Marion County’s roots in FPRA ran deep. It was at Silver Springs that the Association’s founder, Lt. Col. John Dillin, famously stopped in 1938 on his way home to Miami from the Florida Chamber of Commerce meeting in St. Augustine, disappointed that chamber executives had not devoted enough attention to publicity and tourism. He discussed the issue with his friend, Wilton F. Martin, Silver Spring’s publicity director, and the seed for what would become the Florida Association of Publicity Directors, later FPRA, was planted.
