President's Perspective

Lauren Debick, APR
FPRA Ocala Chapter

One of my favorite books is the “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey. Covey speaks to the concept of integrity frequently throughout his book. Integrity is defined as “concept of consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes.”

I personally like to think of integrity as doing what you say you are going to do, when you say you are going to do.

In the spirit of integrity, I wanted to share a status update with the membership as it relates to some of the chapter goals your board decided on at the beginning of the year.

  • Membership
    • Maintain 64 professional members throughout year and recruit five student members
      • We are currently at 60 professional members and one student member. Know someone interested in joining? Please reach out to our membership chairs, Katie Hunnicutt or Lisa Varner, APR, CPRC so they can reach out!
  • Accreditation
    • Have four members of the Ocala Chapter receive their APR and two members of the Ocala Chapter receive their CPRC by August 31, 2019
      • We have two new APRs so far and 1 CPRC candidate mid-way through the process. Interested in getting accredited? Contact Accreditation Chair, Kevin Christian, APR, CPRC today!
  • Membership Investment
    • Have at least one member of the Ocala Chapter participate in the fourth class of LeadershipFPRA
  • Events
    • Hold four ACES sessions throughout year
      • ACES Chair, Allison Campbell, APR, CPRC has done a great job at holding quarterly ACES events.
    • Participate in two community service projects throughout year
      • Community Service Chair, Judi Zanetti, has exceeded our community service goal by coordinating a different service project each quarter. Thank you to Judi and her community service committee!
    • Hold an Image awards event in April, 2019
    • Plan and host a day and a half professional development seminar in May 2019
      • The PR Regional Summit, presented by the FPRA Ocala Chapter, was held Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion – Extension Auditorium in Ocala.

We have been working hard as a membership to do what we said we would do but there are still opportunities for growth. I encourage you to reflect on your own personal goals and see if your goals coincide with the chapter goals for the remainder of the chapter year and what you can do to take action to accomplish those goals. As always, please reach out to me if you would like to discuss any of these ideas in more depth.

With Gratitude,

Did You Know?
In 1986 “For Your Eyes Only,” the chapter newsletter, was published 10 times a year – of which nine issues were sponsored. In June 1988, the chapter president suggested giving the newsletter a new name and holding a contest among members for ideas. The newsletter was renamed Prestige.
