Two thousand. The amount of in-kind and cash sponsorships we received for the ReciPe for Results 2014 Mid-Florida Local Image Awards gala.

Four hundred. The amount we received in raffle prizes – gift cards to local eateries and kitchenware.

Eighty six. The number of non-perishable food items we received.

Thirty six. The number of attendees at the event. Twelve. The number of entries we received.

Thirteen. The number of awards presented at the April 25, 2014, gala including top honors in all three categories, a Grand All Image Award and two Grand Image Awards.

Three. The number of workshops we held to help members prepare their entries. All six entries that received a face-to-face peer review won awards.

One. One heck of a great night; thanks to all who helped make the process and the gala a success.

The Mid-Florida Local Image Awards honor outstanding public relations programs, printed tools of public relations and audio, visual and online tools of public relations. Entries must meet strict criteria and undergo tough scrutiny by a third-party panel judges. Judges must have their Accredited in Public Relations credential and have won an Image Award in the past. Many are also Certified Public Relations Counselors. Winners represent the very best examples of public relations innovation, planning, implementation and design.

Three of this year’s entries met the highest standards of public relations excellence and were bestowed Grand All Image award (Public Relations Programs division) and Grand Image awards (Printed Tools of Public Relations and Audio/Visual/Online Tools of Public Relations):

Barbara Hernandez, APR; Marion County Office of the County Engineer and the Stormwater Section won a Grand Image award for their 2013 Marion County “Discover Our Water Resources” tabloid, an educational newspaper developed to increase water knowledge and promote water-conserving behaviors among Marion County fourth- and fifth-graders. The group also received an Image Award and Judges’ Award for the publication.

 

Grand All Image award (Public Relations Programs)

Heather Danenhower, APR; Duke Energy Corporate Communications; and the Crystal River Nuclear Plant won a Grand All Image Award for their employee communications plan associated with the announcement to retire the Crystal River Nuclear Plant. The group additionally received an Image Award for that plan and also received an Image Award for their Crystal River Nuclear Plant Decommissioning Open House event. The event successfully increased awareness of the decommissioning plan and positively influenced how people felt about plant workers and Duke Energy.

Michele Sager, Allen Yarbrough and Robin Felix won a Grand Image award for the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Springs Instagram Contest, developed to educate and engage the residents of Citrus, Hernando and Marion Counties, home to five major springs systems. The group also received an Image Award for the contest.

Carrieann Adkins, Don Weaver and Robyn Felixreceived an Image Award for the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Springs Website, which positions the district as the leading scientific agency that understands springs and takes action to restore them.

Lila Ivey and Lisa Varner, APR, were honored with an Award of Distinction for their Hospice of Marion County’s Flowers for Alzheimer’ Fundraiser, an awareness-raising effort to support an end to Alzheimer’s disease.

Laura Byrnes, APR, and CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion were honored with an Award of Distinction for their website redesign, which resulted in a more cohesive and clearer information tool that better communicated the nonprofit’s programs and increased engagement.

Jessica Greene Fuchs and Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) Partners received an Award of Distinction for the “Prepare. Protect. Prevent. Water Safety Campaign.” Partnering with local agencies, MCFR raised awareness about water safety and raised funds to purchase swimming lesson packages for local families.


Teresa Martyny and United Way of Marion County received an Award of Distinction for their 2-1-1 Blog to help community members become more aware of the wide range of services available to them locally and nationally.

Speaker for the

Mid-Florida Local Image Awards Gala

MoniqueMonique R. Yeager, Vice President of Marketing at Tijuana Flats
Monique Yeager has over 20 years of marketing and public relations experience. In her role, she is responsible for overseeing Tijuana Flats system wide public relations and marketing efforts including strategic alliances; brand positioning; promotional campaigns; advertising; social media; local store marketing; and external communication strategies.

Ms. Yeager has a strong commitment to the community and serves in several leadership roles including the Boards of Directors of the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association (FRLA) and Chair of the FRLA Marketing Council. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Central Florida Boy Scouts of America and is the Past-President of the Board of Directors for MicheLee Puppets and March of Dimes.

In 2010, she received the Board Member of the Year from MicheLee Puppets and in 2007 she received the March of Dimes Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2006, Ms. Yeager was selected as the Most Influential Business Woman in the Orlando Business Journal’s “40 Under 40 Awards.”

Prior to joining Tijuana Flats, Ms. Yeager was the Director of Marketing for Tony Roma’s, where she was responsible for chain-wide marketing initiatives, both domestically and internationally. Additionally, she was also with Sonny’s Franchise Company and Hooters Restaurants of America. During her tenure at Sonny’s Franchise Company, she developed an award winning cause-related marketing effort, Baby Backs for Babies to benefit the March of Dimes. In 2010, the program was recognized both locally and nationally, receiving the American Marketing Association’s Critics Choice Award and the National Restaurant Association’s Neighborhood Finalist Award.

Ms. Yeager graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s degree in communications, with a Minor in French. To this day she remains a diehard Auburn football fan and attended the National Championship games in 2010 and 2014 – 2010 had the better outcome.

Sirloin Tips for Preparing Your Image Entry

• Precisely follow the directions in the Call for Entries. Make sure to address all five elements of the summary: research/situational analysis, objectives, implementation, evaluation and budget.
• Spend your time writing the two-page summary; it’s 70 percent of your score.
– Write clearly, concisely and factually, not just creatively.
– Avoid passive writing and forms of be. Instead, use active voice.
– Avoid abstract language (e.g., very, really). Instead, write concretely and conversationally.
– Proof the two-page summary and then proof it again. Let your summary simmer on your back burner for a few days, then proof it again and maybe five more times after that.
– Thoroughly review the checklist provided in the Call for Entries. Verify that you met all criteria.

Image Workshops
Don’t dine alone in February; attend three Image workshops with your FRPA Ocala Chapter team. Your committee will whet your appetite for all things Image and help you serve up a perfectly plated entry. Even if you are not planning to participate in the 2014 Mid-Florida Local Image Awards competition, the workshops will provide useful information that just might ignite an idea from last year’s work or help you start the planning process for an upcoming project.

Our top PR chefs will be recognized Friday, April 25, 2014, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at CTAE’s Commercial Food and Culinary Arts school (Brewster Hall) located at 1014 SW 17th Road in Ocala.
